On November 4th in Andamur we held the virtual round table “Calculating the Carbon Footprint in the Transport Sector” with the participation of experts and leading companies to analyze the state of the sector in this area. Miguel Ángel López Sánchez, CEO of Andamur; May López Díaz, Director of Business Development for Sustainable Mobility; Manuel Labrador Jaime, Chief Auditor of Environmental Management Systems, C02 and Carbon Footprint Verifier of AENOR; Ramón Valdivia Palma, General Director of ASTIC; José María Chamizo Sánchez, Director of Alternative Energy Business Development of IVECO Spain and Gabriel Veiga Dopico, Director of Innovation of Andamur as moderator, participated in the round table.

During the meeting, interesting conclusions were reached about the Carbon Footprint and sustainable mobility. May Lopez Diaz, Director of Business Development for Sustainable Mobility, spoke in her speech about the importance of measurement and certification of emissions in the transport sector as the first necessary step for change, because “what is not measured can not be improved. He also spoke about the new trends in mobility brought about by the global pandemic that has forced companies and citizens to apply changes in areas such as technology, consumer habits and aspects related to collaboration and innovation.

Similarly, Manuel Labrador Jaime, Chief Auditor of Environmental Management Systems, Verifier of C02 and Carbon Footprints of AENOR, explained the importance of calculating the carbon footprint by companies, emphasizing the reputation it represents for these companies and the confidence they transmit when they carry it out. He also delved into the concrete consequences of the carbon footprint for the planet and what companies and organizations can do about it.

José María Chamizo Sánchez, Business Development Director of Alternative Energies of IVECO Spain focused his speech on talking about concrete solutions to the problem of the carbon footprint. He explained the European targets for reducing C02 emissions for heavy vehicles and presented four pillars needed for change: Development of a European regulation on sustainability, a sustainable refueling network, vehicle availability and competitive costs. He also spoke of the need to expand the natural gas station network throughout Europe with refueling points that include quality services for drivers equal to those available at a petrol station.

Finally, in his speech Ramón Valdivia Palma, Director General of ASTIC (International Road Transport Association), explained how the lack of competitiveness and added costs have a negative impact on the development of the transport sector and how the sustainability pursued by companies must be ecological, social and economic. He also conveyed how efforts are being made to reduce consumption in European trucks through the development of efficient vehicles, training in economical driving and cargo management, among others.

An event full of valuable information and interesting reflections that brought together 120 attendees around a topic as interesting as important. You can watch it again here.

Our work with the Carbon Footprint and commitment to sustainable mobility

The European Environment Agency (EEA), an agency of the European Union, notes that 13% of particulate pollutants in the 28 countries of the European Union come from road transport. This percentage may reach 27% in Spain. This situation should make us reflect as a sector and that is why we wanted to bring together professionals and companies to talk, learn and improve.

From Andamur we have been working for a long time in the line of sustainability as a key axis within our company through the CSR plan “We Take Care of What Matters”. Last June we became the first company in the sector to obtain the Carbon Footprint Certification, ISO 14064-1 Certificate of Quantification of Emissions and Removals of Greenhouse Gases granted by AENOR. This year we also inaugurated our first natural gas station in Guarromán (Jaen) next to Molgas and installed Endesa chargers in some of our stations. Next month we will inaugurate our second natural gas station in Andamur La Junquera and throughout 2021 we will put into operation the latest technology in Ultra-fast Chargers in Andamur La Junquera and Andamur Guarromán, which are added to those already active in Andamur San Román and Andamur Pamplona. In addition, we collaborate directly with our clients, offering them a free tool necessary to also achieve their own objectives, a statement of their refueling in Andamur that helps them calculate the scope 3 of their carbon footprint, thus helping them to achieve the objectives set by the European pact, calculating their environmental cost beyond the economic cost.

A whole way to continue contributing to the protection of the environment that should be everyone’s business.

“Empresas por la Movilidad Sostenible” (Companies for Sustainable Mobility) continues growing, this time with the incorporation of Andamur

Within mobility, a key point is to be able to guarantee the supply of different types of energy for all types of vehicles and routes. For this reason, we proudly join EMS “Empresas por la Movilidad Sostenible”.

EMS is a meeting point for companies, institutions and public administration on the present and future of environmentally friendly, safe, inclusive and sustainable mobility.

Our commitment to sustainability has led us to be the first company in the sector to obtain the Carbon Footprint Certification, an environmental certification that endorses our work to eliminate emissions from our service stations. And we go further, providing this information to our customers as well.

In the words of our CEO Miguel Ángel López, “we are a multi-energy company capable of supplying all the energy that the transport sector may need: electric chargers, LNG and CNG services. We want to give our customers what they need now and in the future and always express our commitment to the environment and sustainable mobility which is clearly reflected in our projects and actions”.

For her part, May López, Director of Business Development for Sustainable Mobility, stated that “what is not measured cannot be improved. Andamur’s commitment to certifying its carbon footprint and providing it to its clients, mainly transporters, will help to raise awareness, act and reduce its environmental impact and promote more sustainable mobility”.

ANDAMUR AND SUSTAINABILITY

By joining “Empresas por la Movilidad Sostenible”,  we are taking a further step on the road to promoting sustainable mobility and achieving our goal of being carbon neutral, a goal that we are achieving through the implementation of different environmental measures in our service stations.

In Andamur we do not only measure our carbon footprint and offer alternative energy systems in our service areas, but we are also committed to generating enough renewable photovoltaic energy for the operation of our facilities. This is our contribution to the European Green Pact, which aims to make Europe the first continent to achieve climate neutrality.

With our incorporation into EMS (Companies for Sustainable Mobility), this entity continues to establish alliances, bringing together more than 40 members who are committed to promoting sustainable mobility through collaboration and innovation, thus contributing to 17 SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) and sustainable growth from an economic, social and environmental point of view.

iandamur el programa de innovacion de andamur

iandamur el programa de innovacion de andamur

Since the beginning of Andamur we have been an innovative company, being leaders in the implementation of products and services that until then were not offered in the sector (the construction of the Andamur La Junquera Service Area, the launch of the first bank card for the Transport sector, the construction of the first safety parking for trucks or airCODE, the only system that guarantees total security when refuelling).

Today we continue to be committed to innovation by launching iAndamur, a programme to systematise innovation, encourage the capture of business ideas and the culture of innovation, promoting intrapreneurship and relying on relationships with external collaborators to multiply our R&D&I.

With this programme, through workshops to stimulate innovation, we will generate a large number of ideas. Those selected will become part of our incubator and will be carried out following our own methodology that we have developed based on Lean Star Up.

In Andamur we understand the R&D process as a strategic variable that must be unique for all areas of the company. Therefore, the main objective of the iAndamur programme is to promote and facilitate innovation at all levels of the organisation, focusing on covering the needs and expectations of our stakeholders.

iAndamur’s policy is based on four basic principles: to foster a culture of innovation throughout the organisation, to promote collaboration with external innovation organisations (universities, technology centres, startups and companies), to implement an innovation management system to collect, validate, plan and develop business ideas and, finally, to disseminate the knowledge generated by R&D&I activities inside and outside the organisation.

Aware of this responsibility, we are committed to disseminating this policy among all interested parties and implementing it at all levels of the organisation.  All this in order to reach and maintain a prominent position in the market of integral solutions for transporters and individuals.

The inauguration of the Natural Gas Station of  Andamur y Molgas in Guarromán was attended by the CEOs of the companies that have participated in this project. Miguel Ángel López CEO of Andamur, Fernando Sarasola CEO of Molgas Energía, Marcelino Oreja CEO of Enagás, Fernando Impuesto CEO of Enagás Emprende and Óscar Maciñeiras CEO of Scale Gas.

Guarromán’s Service Area thus becomes the first Multi-Energy Station in Andamur capable of supplying gas, electricity and traditional fuel.

For Molgas this is its ninth Natural Gas Station, thus extending the network stations that the company has in Spain.

Andamur and Molgas customers can already refuel Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the first of their Natural Gas Stations in the Andamur Guarromán Service Area. This is the result of the collaboration agreement between both companies.

The new Natural Gas Station of Andamur and Molgas has a LNG pump for heavy vehicles and a double CNG pump for trucks, cars or vans. 24 hours open, it is free access and accepts debit and credit cards, as well as fuel cards from both companies.

Scale Gas, a startup born out of Enagás’ corporateventuring programme, Enagás Emprende, dedicated to small-scale infrastructure and logistics solutions, is in charge of the integral management of the natural gas station.

Before the end of the year, another supply point is expected to be opened in the Andamur La Junquera Service Area as a result of the agreement between Andamur and Molgas.

For Miguel Ángel López, CEO of Andamur, “the start-up of the Gasinera in Andamur Guarromán is a great step forward for the company

We are thus becoming a multi-energy company, capable of supplying all the energy that the transport sector may need: electric chargers, CNG services, etc. We want to give our customers what they need now and in the future.

Fernando Sarasola CEO Molgas Energía considers that “the inauguration of this service station means for Molgas the achievement of another milestone in our ambitious objective of offering our clients a global network (national and international) that covers their refuelling and service needs; the inclusion in our network of an enclave of the logistical importance of Guarromán together with the chosen travel companion, means that this project is born with the highest guarantees of success”.

For his part, the Managing Director of Enagás, Marcelino Oreja, pointed out that “the future of mobility requires technologies and energies that are adapted to the particularities of each transport segment”. Along these lines, he pointed out that “natural gas is currently the only real sustainable alternative that makes it possible to reduce emissions and improve air quality in segments such as heavy transport”, and added that “at Enagás we are committed to innovation and entrepreneurial initiatives that have made it possible to create companies such as Scale Gas, which are now consolidated, and which are developing projects such as the one we are inaugurating today that promote the decarbonisation of transport through natural gas”.

Without a doubt, today is an important day for the companies that have worked to make the Natural Gas Station of Andamur and Molgas in Guarromán a reality, thus showing their firm commitment to the development of sustainable mobility in the transport sector.

>> Andamur Guarromán has become our first multi-energy station equipped to supply gas, electricity and traditional fuel, meeting the growing demand in the transport sector.

Andamur customers can now fill up with liquified natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) at the first of its natural gas stations at the Andamur Guarromán Service Area. It is the company’s first natural gas station, launched  in partnership with Molgas.

The new Andamur-Molgas Natural Gas Station has a LNG pump for HGVs and a CNG for cars and vans. Access is free and it accepts debit and credit cards, as well as both companies’ fuel cards.

This new supply point is a product of Andamur’s commitment to the use of natural gas as a clean, safe and environmentally friendly fuel, since it reduces oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions by 85% and eliminates 96% of particulate matter (PM) emissions. It also helps mitigate the greenhouse effect by completely eliminating sulphur emissions and reducing carbon monoxide (CO) and CO2 emissions by up to 25%. Another advantage offered by this fuel is its cost per kilometre, 30% lower than diesel and 50% lower than petrol.

As part of Andamur’s vision, Andamur Guarromán also marks an important milestone for the company, becoming its first multi-energy station. All of Andamur’s customers – lorry fleets, buses, vans and light vehicles – can fill up at the new facility with any kind of fuel, whether traditional fuel, electricity or gas (LNG or CNG).

The first Endesa X fast chargers in Andamur service stations are now fully operational. The first two “Energy Islands” that have come into operation following the agreement signed by both companies on electric mobility are located in the service areas that Andamur has in the town of San Román (Álava) and in the City of Transport in Pamplona (Navarra). They are the first two locations of the six that Andamur has in our country and that will also have fast and semi-fast recharging infrastructure.

Both have rapid recharging points with a power of 50 kW, which allow an electric vehicle to be charged in minutes: 80% of the battery capacity is covered within 15 to 20 minutes. These chargers are also universal, as they allow recharging in both direct current (CCS Combo, CHAdeMO) and alternating current (Mennekes), which means they can provide service for all models of electric vehicles on the market.

“Thanks to facilities like this one, in an unbeatable location, we are closer and closer to being able to drive on the main roads of our country on board an electric vehicle with total normality, without changing our habits excessively, and with the peace of mind of knowing that we will be able to charge when we need to. By the end of this year, we will have the first 2,000 public access recharging points in operation, which will enable us to have woven a network of chargers along the 15,000 kilometres of the country’s main roads and to have recharging available within a radius of less than 100 kilometres”, said Elena Bernárdez, Endesa’s electric mobility director.

For Miguel Ángel López, CEO of Andamur,” with the installation of Endesa’s fast chargers in our stations we are reaching a new milestone with which we are reinforcing Andamur’s vision. Our company’s commitment to innovation and the environment is one of the pillars on which our strategy has been based in recent years”.

All the recharging points that are coming into operation are connected to the Endesa digital platform and users will be able to recharge their vehicles very easily, thanks to the new Endesa X mobile application, Juice Pass.

The app is available completely free of charge on IOS and Android and allows users to register with their personal details or through Facebook or Google profiles, offering economic advantages in recharge prices. In addition, creating a profile in the application brings advantages to the customer: the process is streamlined; all the detailed information about the recharge point, prices and schedules is accessed; the details of the recharges can be monitored in real time and it also allows access to the history of recharges and invoices.

However, you always have the option of not registering, accessing the updated map of recharge points and making a recharge by simply providing a credit card.  All the recharge points will be connected to Endesa’s digital platform and users will be able to locate, through this application, the recharge station, find out its status, and even reserve the charger.

In Andamur we are the first company in the sector to obtain the Carbon Footprint Certification, ISO 14064-1 Certificate of Quantification of Emissions and Removals of Greenhouse Gases granted by AENOR. Without a doubt, this certification is a true reflection of our commitment to the environment.

In this sense, with this certification we want to make our contribution to the European Green Deal, which aims to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent.

This deal is the road map for providing the European Union with a sustainable economy. It will therefore be necessary for us to transform the climate and environmental challenges into opportunities in all policy areas and to achieve a fair and inclusive transition for all.

Reducing C02 emissions

In our quest to improve the environment, we have already managed to reduce the carbon footprint of our emissions by 30% between 2018 and 2019 through the implementation of energy efficiency measures. In this way, we have managed to make our stations run on 100% ecological energy. Energy efficiency measures that we continue to implement are also helping to further reduce our emissions during 2020.

In the words of Miguel Ángel López, CEO of Andamur, “obtaining the ISO 14064 certification is an example of our commitment to sustainability, which we have embodied in our CSR plan “Cuidamos lo que importa”.  In the same way, Andamur’s vision contemplates in a clear and direct way where we project our daily work. Our company’s commitment to innovation and the environment is one of the pillars on which our strategy has been based over the last two years and which marks the axes of our company’s strategic plan”.

Obtaining the ISO 14064 certification marks our path towards obtaining the 14001 Environmental Management System certification that we are in the process of obtaining and that will become the greatest milestone in terms of contribution to the environment, within our organization.

The measurement and quantification of the carbon footprint shows our commitment to the values of our company, and aims to collaborate directly with our customers, offering them a necessary tool to also achieve their own goals, thanks to the possibility of obtaining a report of their refuelling to help them calculate the scope 3 of their carbon footprint and so they can also promote the achievement of the objectives set by the European Green Deal.

With this certification we have taken the initiative in reducing emissions associated with the supply chains in the professional transport sector to encourage the reduction of climate impact.

Our commitment goes further

We are already moving along the path that we defined in the Strategic Plan 2019-2023. We will end 2020 with the materialization of multi-energy in our network, with the incorporation of electric and natural gas (LNG and CNG) recharge points. In addition, our environmental commitment begins with ourselves and today we have photovoltaic energy generation systems for self-consumption at all our stations.

For the third consecutive year, Andamur maintains its collaboration with the “Jesús Abandonado” foundation, this year focused on the actions that the foundation is carrying out regarding the health emergency in the Covid-19. From Andamur we have made an economic contribution to collaborate in the 400 daily services that are being offered and that include a hot dish at midday and a cold dinner at night.

A collaboration that we have made during the two previous years and that on those occasions consisted of the “Month of Bread” in which from Andamur we financed all the bread that was distributed in the dining room during a whole month. In addition, workers and managers of Andamur did a day of volunteer work in the soup kitchen of the city center of Murcia.

This action is part of our CSR plan #WeTakeCareOfWhatMatters, within its axis of social commitment and is added to other measures carried out during this health crisis in which we have donated 9,600 masks to the different reference hospitals in the communities where our Service Areas are located. We have also fitted out our washing facilities in Andamur Lorca and Andamur Guarromán so that emergency, safety and health vehicles can be washed free of charge.

At present, stress is more present in the work of professional drivers and many transporters may suffer it due to the uncertainty and pressure caused by the health crisis of COVID-19.

To help control this problem, the Foundation for Road Safety (FESVIAL) has published 10 recommendations to try to manage the stress that can be caused by the current situation in driving:

  1. Get the necessary hours of sleep to be rested and keep in mind proper sleep hygiene.
  2. Do not spend too much time on negative thoughts that may cause worry or stress.
  3. Avoiding alcohol consumption and not self-medicating.
  4. Don’t set unattainable goals that can create pressure and overload. It is essential to always prioritize the most important goals.
  5. Enjoy your free time by doing something pleasant or fun. This will make you put aside for a moment the negative thoughts and worries caused by the situation.
  6. While driving, listen to music you like to make the trip more enjoyable. Don’t overhear information about the pandemic on the radio. It is important to be informed but over-information can lead to a feeling of constant uneasiness.
  7. Maintain a healthy diet that prioritizes fruits, vegetables and legumes and drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is essential.
  8. Reduce consumption of tobacco, coffee and other stimulants.
  9. Control your speed even when there is no traffic. High speeds can create tension and stress.
  10. If you suffer an anxiety attack while driving, it is best to stop in a safe area as quickly as possible. If you can not relax, ask for help. Shortness of breath, palpitations, choking sensation or overflowing are some symptoms of suffering a panic attack.

We are in a difficult and very responsible situation, but we must not lose sight of the fact that health is always the most important thing. Take care of yourself behind the wheel!

With the Ozone Generator service, our clients can disinfect their truck cab or car in just 10 minutes, in any of our own service areas

Our customers can already disinfect their truck or car cab with the Ozone Generator Service available in our six Service Areas. This generator provides complete disinfection of truck cabs and private vehicles in just 10 minutes, through the generation of ozone that serves to eliminate bacteria, viruses, fungi and other pollutants present in walls, floors, ceilings and fabrics of the cabin.

A free service with which we continue by the side of the truckers, facilitating the day to day of their routes in these complicated moments in which, in addition, they are so necessary. This service is also available for our car customers, presenting their BonusCard.

One more action that is part of our CSR Plan “Cuidamos lo que Importa” (We care about what matters) in which we want to pay special attention to the care of the driver.

This protection measure, moreover, joins all those implemented since the beginning of the alarm state, in order to offer the best of services by adapting to the established health and safety requirements:

– We have adapted our food/catering services to make them compatible with the legislation that, during this situation, prevents the opening of restaurants.

– In the same way, we have adapted our own stores with screens and other protective elements, so that our customers can do their shopping comfortably and safely.

– On the other hand, we have made available to our customers a total of 20,000 masks and 11,000 hydroalcoholic gels in our Service Areas.

– We have also donated 9,600 masks to the various reference hospitals in the communities where our Service Areas are located

– Finally, we offer a free washing service for emergency, safety and sanitary vehicles in our washing facilities in Andamur Lorca and Andamur Guarromán

In Andamur we are sure that together we will come out ahead. Because now more than ever #EveryTripMatters
