Andamur, 8M Award for WOW: a recognition of our commitment to equality

Andamur, 8M Award for WOW: a recognition of our commitment to equality

Friday was a day as special as it was important for the entire Andamur team and, especially, for those who, every day, work to make our initiative WOW, Women On The Way, a real movement and generate a positive impact on society.

And the fact is that, last 07th, we were recognized with one of the 8M Awards of the Region of Murcia. These awards, promoted on the occasion of International Women’s Day, value those people and initiatives that, with their actions, have excelled in their struggle for equality between men and women in the region.

The event, which took place in the Auditorium Victor Villegas, was attended by the President of the Community, Fernando Lopez Miras, the Minister of Social Policy, Families and Equality, Conchita Ruiz and the Minister of Enterprise, Employment and Social Economy, Maria Isabel Lopez.

In addition, the general director of Women and Prevention of Gender Violence, Ana Belén Martínez, also attended, who presented the award to our CEO, Miguel Ángel López, and our director of Marketing, Customer Service and CSR, Ángeles Ruiz.

“When we launched this project we looked at the need to attract female talent to the transport sector. There was a great lack of personnel, not only at the driving level, but also in positions of leadership and responsibility,” shared Miguel Ángel. “This award is a tribute to all women, but especially to all those who are breaking barriers in the transport sector,” continued Ángeles. There were words of thanks for the entire Andamur team and for the women who are part of it. As Ángeles emotionally commented, “they already make up 63% of the workforce”.

This day we shared the stage with great women:

  • Chitina Martínez, founder and vice-president of the Asociación de Familiares de Niños con Cáncer de la Región de Murcia (Afacmur), distinguished as “Woman of the Year”, for dedicating her life to improving people’s lives.
  • María del Pilar Vidal, civil guard of the VioGén team in Calpe. Her work fighting against gender violence for 30 years is very important.
  • María Dolores Bolarín, del Centro de la Mujer de San Antolín (Murcia), por dinamizar el papel de la mujer en el barrio murciano y, con el hijo y nieta de Agustina Moreno, from the Women’s Center of San Antolín (Murcia), for energizing the role of women in the Murcian neighborhood and, with the son and granddaughter of Agustina Moreno, from the Asociación de Encajeras de Bolillo Santa Florentina, from La Palma (Cartagena), who was unable to join us for health reasons.

“If there is no equality between men and women we will be missing out on the talent, creativity and unique perspectives that each person can contribute, regardless of their gender,” commented Councilor Conchita Ruiz.

We could not feel more identified with her words and more proud to be contributing to it with a project that will continue to grow and give us great satisfactions such as this award.

Thank you for believing in it. Thank you for making it possible.
